The Project, Securing Policy and Advocacy Space to Develop Options That Advance Community Interests in the Management of Natural Resources, is a 23-months project supported by the European Union through the Government of Kenya’s Ministry of Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs (MOJNCCA) under the Non State Actors facility (NSA NET). It is implemented by the Institute for Law and Environmental Governance (ILEG), Ujamaa Centre and Community Initiative Action Group-Kenya (CIAG-Kenya) on behalf of the Friends of Yala Swamp.
Project Objective
The main objective of the project is to improve the democratic governance of natural resources by enabling communities to have a voice in national development policies and ongoing reforms implementation. Specifically, the project seeks to empower the local communities and Non-State Actors to effectively participate in the governance of natural resources.
Project Target Group
This project mainly targets the communities, County Councils, Government departments and agencies in the three districts.
Expected Results
- Enhanced capacity of the local communities and Non-State Actors to effectively participate in decision-making processes at the local, regional and national levels with regard to governance and management of natural resources.
- Improved democratic governance of natural resources through enhanced stakeholders’ (Non-State Actors, Private sector, Government Departments and Communities) participation on legislative reforms and policy making processes.
- Improved livelihoods of the local communities through secure, equitable access and control of natural resources.
